Graphic Design Intern

Marketing and Event Intern (Unpaid)
Hours: 2-3 Days a Week - Up to 24 hours
Time Period: Entire Length of Spring, Summer, or Fall Semesters

Job Summary:
Design or create graphics to meet specific commercial or promotional needs, such as packaging,
displays, or logos. May use a variety of mediums to achieve artistic or decorative effects.

Job Duties:

  • Key information into computer equipment to create layouts for client or supervisor
  • Review final layouts and suggest improvements, as needed.
  •  Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy and select style and size of type.
  •  Develop graphics and layouts for event illustrations, logo, ads, program book, and website.
  •  Create designs, concepts, and sample layouts, based on knowledge of layout principles and aesthetic design concepts.
  •  Use computer software to generate designs and images; Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, Etc.
  •  Prepare digital files for printing.
  • Mark up, paste, and assemble final layouts to prepare layouts for printer or publication.
  • Study illustrations and photographs to plan presentation of materials, products, or services.
  • Maintain archive of images, logo treatments, photos, videos, and graphics.
  • Photograph layouts, using stock photography, to complement design work.

• Drafting, Laying Out, and Specifying Technical Devices, Parts, and Equipment — Providing
documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how
devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified,
maintained, or used.
• Resolving Conflicts and Negotiating with Others — Handling complaints, settling disputes, and
resolving grievances and conflicts, or otherwise negotiating with others.
• Documenting/Recording Information — Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining
information in written or electronic/magnetic form.

and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws,
regulations, or standards.
• Judging the Qualities of Objects, Services, or People — Assessing the value, importance, or
quality of things or people. Education, Experience and Knowledge:
• Education – High school degree required, or verification of certificate, apprenticeship program
or portfolio of work to demonstrate skill set. Associate degree preferred.
• Professional Experience – 2+ years of graphic design or related creative design experience is
required.
• Design — Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of
precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Computers and Electronics — Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic
equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
• Fine Arts — Knowledge of the theory and techniques required to compose, produce, and
prepare artwork.
• Communications and Media — Knowledge of media production, communication, and
dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain
via written, oral, and visual media.
• Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the
meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Bilingual preferred.
• Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality
control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution
of goods.
